Mitsotakis argued that the priority should be a rapid and peaceful transition to an “inclusive, democratically legitimate government.” His statement made no reference to the US-led military involvement or the wider geopolitical consequences.

He added that Greece will act in coordination with the EU and the UN Security Council and that the government remains focused on the safety of Greek citizens in Venezuela.

Mitsotakis’ full post

“Nicolás Maduro led a violent and oppressive dictatorship that caused untold suffering to the Venezuelan people. The end of his regime offers new hope to the country.

This is not the time to comment on the legality of recent actions. The priority now must be to ensure a peaceful and swift transition to a new, inclusive government that enjoys full democratic legitimacy.

Greece will coordinate with its partners in the European Union and the UN Security Council on the issue. We remain committed to ensuring the safety of Greek citizens in the country.”
