The exchange occurred during Kyranakis’ closing remarks. He first told Perka not to ‘shout’ and then added: ‘This is the parliament, it’s not your kitchen.’ Perka immediately reacted from the floor, shouting, off microphone, ‘You are a fascist.’
Speaking to journalists afterwards, Perka described the comment as explicitly sexist, saying it would not have been directed at a male MP. She characterised it as a familiar insult used when arguments are exhausted, describing it as irrelevant and offensive. She also accused Kyranakis of making false claims, stating that figures he cited concerned state subsidies linked to the privatisation of TrainOSE, and described him as a minister who, in her words, makes unsubstantiated statements.
In a statement, the New Left condemned the remark, describing it as a sexist attack and accusing Kyranakis of crossing all limits of political decency. The party said the comment was not a verbal slip but part of a broader pattern of behaviour, arguing that such conduct reflects a political culture in which sexist language is used when substantive arguments fail.
The statement added that the incident was indicative of what it described as bullying and authoritarian attitudes, and said the party would continue to oppose such behaviour in parliament.
