The incident occurred at a well-known diagnostic centre, Giannakos told Mega, adding that the worker was injured after inhaling hot air following the explosion.

‘There was an explosion in the parking lot of a well-known diagnostic center. An employee suffered an inhalation burn, which is particularly serious, as it causes airway closure [and] lung dysfunction and put his life in immediate danger,’ he said.

The 24-year-old was initially taken to a nearby private hospital, where he received first aid and was intubated. Later the same day, he was transferred to the Red Cross hospital.

Giannakos said doctors carried out surgery and a tracheotomy. The employee is now in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.
