In a post on X, the European official also said she was ‘relieved’ that all those attending the reception hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, including the US president, were safe.
‘An event that was supposed to honour the free press should never have turned into a scene of terror’, Kallas added.
The attacker was arrested before he could enter the room where the correspondents’ dinner was being held.
