The first seven defendants to testify were released under the restrictive condition of a ban on leaving the country. During their testimonies, they denied the charges, claiming they had no illegal involvement and presenting documents which, according to them, prove the lawful possession of the plots of land connected to the case.

The testimony process is continuing, as another defendant was granted a further 24-hour deadline and is expected to appear before the investigating judge along with the other five people involved, who allegedly played a central role in the operation of the ring.

The investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), focuses on allegations of the illegal receipt of agricultural subsidies through declarations of land and rights considered to be fictitious or disputed. The judicial authorities are continuing to investigate the case, while new testimonies and decisions concerning the main defendants are expected within the next 24 hours.
