The call reads:

‘The Metro tunnel boring machine recently travelled underground from Kypseli Square to approximately Zakynthos Street, with devastating consequences for our neighbourhood. Along this route:

‘The majority of buildings have suffered minor or major cracking, differential settlement and/or groundwater problems.

‘Some buildings have been classified as potentially structurally unsafe in the event of an earthquake.

‘Some homes have ALREADY been given a yellow or even red classification for damage to their load-bearing structures.

‘To this day, the company REFUSES to provide the experts appointed by the municipality of Athens and Kypseli residents with all the data and measurements concerning the condition of our homes, concealing the truth from us for more than six months.

‘The limited data that HELLENIC METRO was forced to provide following repeated pressure confirms that many homes are not structurally sound, despite false assurances to the contrary from company representatives and Deputy Minister Tachiaos just a few weeks ago.

‘Buildings located along the route of the next section of the Metro line are at risk of suffering similar or even more serious problems than the apartment blocks that have already been affected within the project’s zone of influence in Kypseli.

‘We demand:

‘No resumption of Metro works without the complete repair of the damage and absolute guarantees for the safety of our lives and homes.

‘Full transparency now regarding all studies and details of the project.

‘Full structural assessments of all buildings in the subsidence area, including schools and other public buildings.

‘Comprehensive studies, with full transparency and disclosure of all project details, concerning the forthcoming route of the Metro line through the areas it will cross.

‘Immediate and substantial support for all affected residents, both owners and tenants.
