Right after the attack, panic ensued. The authorities asked the people to stay in theri houses and avoid any form of travel. The Brussels airport is closed with more than 200 scheduled flights diverted to other European airports. The Eurostar to and from Belgium was closed. It is reported that he nuclear plant of Tihange was evacuated but here is no official explanation. Equally the University of Brussels was shut down. The offices of the EU, the metro stations which were bombed were adjacent to them, were closed while those who were already in the buildings were asked to remain there. 

The latest statement by the Belgian minister of health rises the number of dead to 34. 14 were killed at the airport and 81 were wounded. The administration of the Belgian Metro reported that 20 people were killed and 55 were injured in the bombing.

The airports of France, England, Germany, Holland, Greece and other European countries are reported to have entered heightened security stata.

The Belgian foreign minister, Didier Reynders stated that the fears of the Belgian authorities have been confirmed in that there were still unspotted terrorists walking free since the Paris attacks. He went on to note that the danger is not over and that there are still individuals who could perform terrorist attacks any time, even now.

The Belgian police authorities have asked the media to refrain from reporting the whereabouts of their ongoing investigations.

Most European leaders have already issued statements of concern and solidarity towards the Belgian people and declarations of anger and resistance to the terrorist aims.
