The President of the European Commission, J.C.Juncker expressed his contentment over the “important Greek efforts” concerning the migrant crisis.
The discussion between the two men focused on the issues which are scheduled to be discussed in the Euro Summit; the position of the UK in the EU as well as the migrant crisis. The Greek economy is also expected to be considered.
Both Mr.Tsipras and Mr. Juncker agreed that the migrant crisis can only be resolved via collective action and collaboration between EU member states and that countries should refrain from taking action on their own. The crucial role of Turkey in the attempts to resolve the crisis has also been acknowledged.
Among the issues discussed was the need to further enhance the aid available to Greece in order for the country to be able to better rescue, welcome, and list the migrants.
In a statement while coming to the summit, the Greek PM stated that “the solution to the migrant crisis does not lie in the building of fences” while he clarified that the future of Europe is not walls and xenophobia rather than unity and solidarity.
