Another withdrawal from the parliamentary preliminary investigation into Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister for State Aid and Natural Disaster Recovery Christos Triantopoulos was recorded today, this time concerning New Democracy MP Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, who will be replaced by Maria Antoniou.
Mr. Kalogeropoulos cited medical reasons for his withdrawal, stating that he had recently undergone eye surgery and was unable to participate in the committee’s proceedings.
This follows the earlier withdrawal of Giorgos Kotsos, who also declared himself unable to serve, citing his acquaintance with the family of a Tempe victim as a conflict of interest.
Meanwhile, according to reports by Open TV, the entire opposition has strongly criticised the government, arguing that New Democracy MPs are reluctant participants in the investigation. Some are reportedly dissatisfied after being overlooked for ministerial positions, while others fear they will be scapegoated for a potential failure at the parliamentary level—particularly following Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ remark that the initial parliamentary inquiry into Tempe was “not the finest moment of Parliament.”
The preliminary investigation committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday at 10 AM, during which the presidency will be elected. In the coming days, intense political battles are expected over which witnesses will be called to testify.
