In an extraordinary meeting on Monday, PEYFA decided on a four-hour warning strike by security personnel at the Acropolis and all archaeological sites and museums using electronic ticketing systems. This action is in protest against the handover of visitor entry control to a private company, a move PEYFA strongly opposes.
The sites affected include those under the General Directorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens, the National Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki, the archaeological site of Knossos, the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the archaeological site and museum of Ancient Olympia, the archaeological site and museum of Mycenae, the Asclepius Sanctuary of Epidaurus, the archaeological site and museum of Delphi, and the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes.
PEYFA’s announcement highlights that they have opposed ODAP’s (Organisation for the Management and Development of Cultural Resources) plan since it was first proposed, staging two successful strikes in December and January. Despite these protests, the political leadership and ODAP’s administration have proceeded with their plans to outsource entry control to a private company.
