Asimakopoulou scandal: Public faces lawsuits worth 2.8 million euros
In the wake of the Asimakopoulou scandal, attorney Vassilis Sotiropoulos has revealed substantial legal action against the Greek State. From his office alone, 140 lawsuits have been filed by expatriates in the Administrative Court of First Instance of Athens, with each suit formally notified to the Legal Council of the State through a bailiff. Additionally, there are 14 more lawsuits in the preparatory stages.
Sotiropoulos notes that these expatriates are seeking compensation for moral damages caused by the illegal processing of their personal data. This claim comes amidst criticism of the Ministry of the Interior, which has yet to issue self-protection guidelines for the victims, a full month after the scandal’s exposure. The financial implications for the public are significant, with the combined claims amounting to approximately 2.8 million euros.
