The number of migrants stranded in the islands of the North Aegean has reached new record heights since the beginning of the agreement between the EU and Turkey. The numbers are soaring despite the continuous transfers of those refugees who are found on a first level to be possibly eligible for asylum in Europe.
More precisely in Lesvos there are 3.937 people, in Chios there are 3.078 and Samos 1.078 people stranded.
Although the weather conditions have been particularly bad, on Sunday morning a boat carrying 14 refugees attempted to cross from Turkey to Lesvos. Three of the passengers were washed away by the waves and the Greek coast guard proceeded to a successful rescue operation.
