In his letter, Doukas stressed that anxiety and uncertainty persist among residents of the affected buildings. Inspections conducted by the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) have identified serious problems in some properties, requiring immediate and substantial intervention.
He also pointed out that repairs to other apartment buildings damaged by the construction works have yet to make meaningful progress, prolonging residents’ concerns about the safety of their homes.
The mayor expressed further concern over plans to resume construction on Metro Line 4, noting that residents had not been consulted and that no guarantees had been provided against further, potentially more extensive damage.
Doukas therefore called for an urgent meeting involving all relevant parties, including technical experts, residents’ representatives, Hellenic Metro and the construction contractor, to establish clear repair timetables and safety measures.
‘For these reasons, a meeting is necessary as soon as possible, with the participation of experts, representatives of residents, Hellenic Metro and the construction company. All these issues must be discussed so that timetables and safety guarantees can be established for residents and repairs to the damage can proceed’, the Athens mayor stated in his letter.
