The meeting took place at a particularly critical moment, as Albanese faces intense pressure over her reports on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

In a post titled ‘Impunity will not last forever’, Doukas described Albanese as ‘one of the most courageous voices in defence of international law worldwide’. The post and the meeting sent a clear message of support from the Municipality of Athens for accountability and human rights.

‘Impunity will not last forever.

‘Today I had the honour of meeting Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, one of the most courageous voices in defence of international law.

‘At a time of deep crisis for the international human rights protection system, she insists on speaking out for responsibility, accountability and justice. Despite the pressures, bans and sanctions she has faced, she continues unwaveringly to highlight the reality in Gaza and the West Bank.

‘Her recent report sheds light on something that can no longer be ignored: how multinational corporations are enriching themselves through the occupation and how war is being turned into a profitable “opportunity” for some.

‘Athens stands clearly in favour of peace and accountability.’
