A major solidarity demonstration in support of Palestine and Lebanon unfolded in central Athens, marking the one-year anniversary of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023. The attacks have resulted in nearly 42,000 casualties in Palestine and 2,000 in Lebanon. The protest started at the Athens Concert Hall and is making its way towards the US and Israeli embassies, with the main slogan: "Freedom for Palestine."

Thousands of demonstrators are marching through the city, chanting against Israel and the United States, and demanding an end to the violence in both Palestine and Lebanon. The protest is also a direct condemnation of Greece’s involvement in the conflict.

At around 7:30 p.m., the march began to block traffic on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, with its final destination being the Israeli embassy. A giant Palestinian flag leads the demonstration, with chants of “Freedom for Palestine” and “Victory to the Intifada” ringing out as the crowd proceeds.
