The fire began while the bus, operating on route 11, was at the junction of Egnatia and Angelaki streets near the TIF entrance. The driver noticed smoke and flames at the rear of the vehicle, halted on Egnatia and directed passengers to leave the bus. Three fire engines and a team of 10 firefighters attended and brought the fire under control.

Police closed the eastbound carriageway on Egnatia while emergency services worked at the scene; traffic was later restored once safety checks were complete.
