The owner of Freedom of Press, Babis Polychroniadis, denounced in a post that he received a message from Google saying it "can no longer display one or more pages from your website in Google Search results", clearly referring to censorship.
“As the owner of Freedom of Press (freedomofpress.gr), I received an e-mail from Google yesterday saying that ” it can no longer display one or more pages from your website in Google Search results ” and that ” we do not disclose which criteria have been affected… in order to comply with changes in European legislation, which seek to prevent the identification of the applicant”, the journalist notes in his publication.
He adds that “it seems someone offended by our articles submitted a request to Google to remove from the website search results related to them and that Google is not bound to tell us who this person is or which URLs are involved“.
“We have neither a single lawsuit, nor any complaint, nor a conviction against us,” he emphasizes questioning “what exactly are the ‘offended‘ and Google invoking in connection with European legislation?”
“Dystopia is here, friends” and “the rogues will continue to write (and erase) history“. He concludes by saying “if anything similar to this email has come to the attention of other colleagues, for which I will also inform ESIEA (Athens Daily Newspaper Editors’ Union), please reach out to me. Shadow bans were bad enough, now we have this! P.S. I have never seen SEO like this before…”
