The deputy spokeswoman of the European Commission, Mina Andreeva expressed the belief that, despite all recent developments, Turkey remains a safe Third country for the relocation of refugees and migrants. She also mentioned that a letter has been sent to the deputy Migration Minister, G.Mouzalas on the subject.
Concerning the recent developments that are taking place in Turkey after the failed coup attempt and the reaction by the Turkish government and president Erdogan, the commission finds that the assurances given by the Turkish side on the protection and conditions of the Syrian as well as migrants and refugees of other nationalities, are found “satisfactory” and for that reason it can be considered a “safe third country”.
The deputy minister for refugee policy, G.Mouzalas has been the recipient of a letter by the commissioner for migration, DImitris Avramopoulos, with detailes on the subject.
