The statement reads:
‘The silence imposed by the New Democracy government to conceal its criminal policy will not pass. The hypocritical rhetoric about supposedly cracking down on smuggling rings no longer convinces anyone, especially when they go so far as to arrest a 13-year-old child as a smuggler, as happened recently in Crete. The policy of repression and pushbacks, entrapment and sorting, is the ground on which smuggling rings operate. This policy led to more than 10,500 deaths in the Mediterranean in the three years that followed, as well as the crime of Chios, with dozens of people killed. This policy is reinforced by the new barbaric and racist EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, which was jointly voted for by social democrats, neoliberals and far-right parties.
‘The KKE calls on the people to strengthen their struggle against involvement in war and their solidarity with persecuted refugees and migrants, in conflict with the policies of the EU and governments. This is the path for the seas to stop becoming a watery graveyard and for our country to stop being a warehouse of souls.
‘The crime will not be forgotten. We demand the punishment of those responsible.’
