The Eurogroup (EG) that took place on Saturday discussed about the potential outcome of the Greek elections and stressed out that the next government should not expect to be in a position to negotiate any of the bail out terms.
During a press conference after the meeting, President Jeroen Dijsselbloem and the interim Greek Finance Minister Giorgos Chouliarakis, informer the EG members that the caretaker government is proceeding with the preparations for the implementation of the bail out program.
Dijsselbloem highlighted the need for preparations to continue while Greece waits for the elections so there will be no delays in the review process.
“I think that it’s important that in Greece the preparations continue while the political situation is of course unclear at the moment,” the EG head said.
European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici said that the reforms Greece must implement by October are numbered, but argued that the program is ambitious and its substance should remain unchanged.
He noted the urgency of drafting a plan for pension reforms and the budget in 2016.
He also added that the International Monetary Fund’s participation in the Greek program is necessary.
“We must be ambitious on the timing of the first Greece program review, without being any less ambitious on the substance,” said Moscovici.
