The incident, captured on video, shows the officer pushing a young woman while a colleague attempts to restrain him. The footage also depicts another officer striking civilians with a shield, kicking a protester, and a fourth officer spraying chemicals into the crowd.

The protest, which took place on Monday, 7 August, saw police clash with demonstrators. According to reports from protesters and journalists on the scene, police forces used batons, tear gas, and flash grenades, detaining 20 people, of whom 10 were arrested. Police later claimed that the unrest began when a group of protesters threw stones and flares at officers.

Police spokesperson Constantia Dimoglidou commented on the footage, saying, “Such behaviour is not permitted, and it is commendable that his colleagues tried to reason with him. We have seen these moments many times, but we do not know how they begin or what precedes them.”
