More specifically, even though the average wholesale price fell by around 16% last month – dropping to €89 per megawatt hour – retail prices on so-called green tariffs have gone up. These tariffs are used by roughly 72.4% of households in Greece, equivalent to about 5.3 million consumers, according to 2024 data from the Regulatory Authority for Energy.

The average cost per kilowatt hour is now 14.4 cents, a rise of 7%, with some providers increasing their rates even more. For instance, Public Power Corporation (ΔΕΗ) raised its tariff to 13.6 cents per kWh from 11.6 cents in April – an increase of 16.5%. Elin followed with a 16.9% rise to 12.2 cents, Eunice raised prices by 13.9% to 13.2 cents, and Heron pushed rates up by 14.6% to 14.3 cents per kWh.Others have kept their prices steady: Protergia at 15.9 cents, NRG at 15.8 cents, and Zenith at 16.02 cents per kilowatt hour.
