The Greek daily Ta Nea, reports that European Union officials would like to see a broad coalition government that will represent as many people as possible, after the September 20 general elections in Greece.
According to a Brussels report, citing anonumous European sources, EU believes that it would be almost impossible for a government with a slight majority to implement all the unpopular reforms the bailout program requires.
“He is naive who believes that there will be an agreement with half of Greece”, the source said adding that “this position of Europe will be a factor wth wight in the negotiations among the parties to form a government after the elections”
The report also claims that all political leaders in Greece have been informed of EU's recommendation for a broader coalition.
Brussels wants to see the bailout obligations being fulfilled by the Greek side and the first review to be completed as soon as possible. If the review is successful, than debt negotiations can commence in November or December
