Famellos calls on progressive parties to lead a no confidence motion against the Greek government

Sokratis Famellos, President of SYRIZA, emphasized the need for a united effort from progressive parliamentary forces to submit a no confidence motion against the New Democracy government in a statement made on 31 January.
Famellos noted that “today’s vote for the President of the Republic proved the isolation of Mr. Mitsotakis. No other parliamentary party supported Mr. Tasoulas’ candidacy.”
Regarding his own party’s proposal for President of the Republic, Famellos stated, “On the other hand, Louka Katseli’s non-partisan candidacy showed that she can unite. However, we cannot come to this Parliament in silence as if there is no issue.”
“The society demands answers for the Tempe tragedy, and a discussion should have already been scheduled based on the proposal we submitted for an off-agenda debate” he added, emphasizing that “the cover-up has been exposed and Mr Mitsotakis has no excuses.”
“Today, we need a joint initiative from the progressive parties to submit a no confidence motion in the government, with the required fifty MPs. We cannot wait any longer. The time is right. The evidence and Mr. Mitsotakis’ confession are clear, and society demands it. Mr Mitsotakis is the orchestrator of the cover-up in the Tempe disaster,” he concluded in his statement.
