The overflowing river in Psachna prompted authorities to issue a new 112 emergency alert, urging residents to evacuate towards Artaki as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, local media report extensive damage to the road leading to Prokopi, in the municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna, near Alexiou, where floodwaters have split the road surface in two.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area until further notice from the authorities.
Residents trapped and homes flooded in Makrykapa
The situation is particularly severe in Makrykapa, in the municipality of Dirfys-Messapia, where an overflowing river has caused widespread flooding. Torrential waters have entered homes, while residents report being unable to leave their properties.
‘We suffered extensive damage. Water entered our house, but also many houses that are not as close to the river as ours’, a resident told local news website evima.gr.
He explained that the water had flooded the basement of his home, where supplies including heating oil and firewood were stored.
‘The force of the water is terrifying. Those of us whose homes are near the river are trapped and cannot get out because of the rushing water’, he said.
