The defendants include former Thessaly regional governor Kostas Agorastos, the former deputy regional governor of Karditsa, the then mayors of Palamas and Sofades, and 14 other officials from various public services.

Following the completion of the preliminary investigation, the deputy prosecutor at the Karditsa Criminal Court brought charges against them for the misdemeanours of manslaughter by negligence and causing a flood resulting in death.

A total of 17 people died in Thessaly and Phthiotis as a result of Storm Daniel, while the damage to infrastructure and crops was extensive.

Decisions by the prosecutors’ offices in Larissa, Trikala and Magnesia are still pending, as investigations into the deaths of the remaining eight people have not yet been completed.
