Four years since Giorgos Karaivaz’s murder: Killers still at large, journalists’ union says

"Today marks four years since the murder of our colleague Giorgos Karaivaz, and his killers are still at large," says the Board of the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA).
“The two individuals initially arrested and jailed were eventually acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence. Since then, there has been no progress in the investigation into this case, which shocked the Greek public,” the statement reads.
“ESIEA calls on the authorities to continue their investigations as required, until those responsible – both the perpetrators and those behind the crime – are brought to justice and all aspects of the case are fully uncovered,” the union adds.
“The journalistic community will not back down. We demand full transparency, and this same call is shared by both the European and International Federation of Journalists (EFJ and IFJ),” the statement stresses.
“The murder of Karaivaz must be solved. Otherwise, it will remain a stain on the rule of law and justice.”
