The 34-year-old alleged abuser was arrested but later released following two postponements of the trial, which is now scheduled for December 10.

Details of the abuse

According to the victim’s testimony, reported by Patris.gr, the violence began with verbal arguments and escalated to severe physical abuse. At one point, the man locked her in their room, preventing her from leaving to meet friends. The woman had to call the room manager to unlock the door.

In another incident, following a heated argument during a joint outing, the man abandoned her in a remote mountainous area inhabited by wolves. Although he returned 15 minutes later, the act left her terrified and isolated.

Later that same night, the man allegedly assaulted her, hurling insults, dragging her by the hair into the street, and confiscating her mobile phone.

Victim’s ordeal and safety measures

The victim, a 29-year-old teacher, described the fear and control she experienced throughout the relationship. Her lawyer, Antonis Xylourgidis, stated, “She wanted to free herself from this person, and this incident gave her the reason and opportunity. Fortunately, she is alive and now safe with her family.”

The woman has since requested and installed a panic button for her safety, as she continues to recover from her injuries and the trauma of the assault.

Legal proceedings

The alleged perpetrator, a 34-year-old businessman from Heraklion, was initially arrested and brought before a prosecutor. However, his lawyer requested a postponement, which was granted. After being deemed dangerous during the first postponement and held in police custody, he was released following the second postponement.

The trial has been rescheduled for December 10.
