The Single-Member Court of Appeal convicted all 23 of the misdemeanour offence of violating the recently introduced provision on the protection of the monument. The amendment prohibits gatherings and demonstrations directly in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a measure that has been widely criticised as anti-democratic.

The court acknowledged the mitigating circumstance of ‘noble motives’ and issued three-year suspensions, allowing all defendants to be released. In their statements, the accused defended their action, describing it as a short, symbolic protest against the amendment itself.
