According to the Imerisia newspaper (link in Greek) the agency has declared that it has debts towards IKA (the state social security fund) worth 748,509 euros, and debts to suppliers worth 3.5 million euros. The agency has requested that all of the owners of points of sale of foreign press begin the process of closing their books with the agency.
The move means that tourists in Greece will most likely be unable to find foreign newspapers and magazines this summer with many newsagents believing that foreign publications will not be circulated in the country again at least until September. To date in Greece approximately 4,000 foreign magazine titles were in circulation and 20 major international newspapers.
According to some reports interest in distributing foreign press in Greece has been shown by a Cypriot investor.

The 18 million tourists projected to arrive in Greece over the coming months would be well advised to bring reading material with them as the Foreign Press Distributing Agency has announced that it is suspending its activities due to bankruptcy.
