The number of unemployed people stood at 381,769, down by 58,363, or 13.3%, compared with June 2025, but up by 12,345, or 3.3%, from May 2026.
Among women, the unemployment rate fell to 10.4%, from 11.2% in June 2025. Among men, it declined to 6%, from 7.6% a year earlier.
By age group, unemployment among people aged 15–24 rose to 19.5%, from 18.6% in June 2025. Among those aged 25–74, it fell to 7.3%, from 8.6%.
According to ELSTAT’s labour force survey, the number of employed people reached 4,389,230, an increase of 53,413, or 1.2%, compared with June 2025. Employment also rose by 16,465 people, or 0.4%, compared with May 2026.
The number of people under the age of 75 who were outside the labour force, meaning they were neither working nor seeking employment, stood at 2,941,499. This represented a decline of 36,988, or 1.2%, compared with June 2025, and a decrease of 33,042, or 1.1%, from May 2026.
ELSTAT said the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 8% in June 2026, compared with an upwardly revised rate of 9.2% in June 2025 and a downwardly revised rate of 7.8% in May 2026.
