In a statement, the party said that claims of a ‘pre-emptive’ strike are a pretext, arguing that Washington and Tel Aviv had been preparing a large-scale attack for months. The KKE also pointed to the concentration of significant military forces in the region, which it said forms part of plans to advance imperialist objectives and bring about regime change in Tehran.
The party warned of the risk of a broader escalation, noting that the multiple open fronts across the region could lead to a wider military confrontation.
Regarding the Greek government, the KKE accused the ruling party, New Democracy, of implicating Greece in ‘American–Israeli plans’, referring in particular to the use of the Souda naval base in Crete and other military infrastructure.
The Communist Party also spoke of serious dangers for the Greek people and attributed responsibility to other political parties which, it said, support the strategic alliance with Israel.
The statement concluded by calling for the cancellation of any participation of Greek armed forces in missions connected to US plans in the region. It also demanded the return of Greek military assets stationed abroad and the closure of foreign military bases in Greece.
