According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (APE-MPE), approximately 158,000 sheep and goats have been lost in total. Of these, around 90,000 were killed in the floods caused by Storm Daniel, while 38,056 were lost to a plague outbreak and more than 30,000 to smallpox.
The smallpox epidemic alone has spread to 168 locations across 13 regions, including Evros, Rodopi, Xanthi, Kavala, Serres, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Magnesia, Karditsa, Fokida, Evia, Lesbos, and Corinthia.
These losses have placed a substantial strain on the livestock industry, already contending with rising operational costs and ongoing disease threats.
