Avramopoulos submitted a lengthy memorandum requesting that his immunity be lifted, saying that he wanted the case to be investigated as fully as possible.
He maintained that his position on the honorary board of the non-governmental organisation Fight Impunity was purely honorary and that he held no executive, administrative or managerial responsibilities.
According to his memorandum, he was not involved in managing the organisation’s finances, securing or administering funding, or making operational decisions.
Avramopoulos also said that the European Commission had been informed of his involvement and that it had undergone the required ethics review. He added that his remuneration had been approved, declared and taxed in Greece.
‘I have nothing to do with the illegal acts described in the European arrest warrant,’ he said, rejecting the allegations.
