The amendment, titled “Definition of electoral State funding of political parties and its return in case of non-participation in an electoral contest – Suspension of funding for Parties and coalitions of Parties in cases of conviction of the leader and starting time of the suspension – Amendment of subpar. bb) par. b) par. 1 article 1, article 2 and par. 1 article 6 of presidential decree 15/2022”, garnered “yes” votes from New Democracy, PASOK, SYRIZA, Hellenic Solution, and New Left.
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and Course for Freedom abstained with a “present” vote, while Niki and the Spartans party opposed the measure.
The amendment outlines conditions under which state funding can be suspended, including the prosecution or temporary detention of a party leader, president, or figure exercising de facto leadership. It also mandates that the Spartans return funds already received, following the Supreme Court’s earlier ban on their participation in the European elections.
