Some examples:

  • Cereals: A 500g packet of cereals costs 3.94 euros in Greece, compared to 2.48 euros in Spain and 2.35 euros in Italy.
  • Deodorant: A 50ml deodorant retails for 3 euros in Greece, while it’s available for 2.08 euros in Spain and 2.59 euros in Italy.
  • Hazelnut praline: A 200g pack of hazelnut praline costs 3.07 euros in Greece, but only 2.23 euros in Spain and 2.99 euros in Italy.

The price disparity has left many Greek consumers feeling frustrated and out of pocket. As one consumer interviewed by OPEN noted, “My wife’s sister sends us branded products from Germany at half the price.” Another added, “In the Netherlands, where my son is, it’s cheaper. The slice here is more expensive than in the Netherlands.”
