Voula hospital staff union president denounces absence of radiologists and remote CT scan diagnoses

“This is both unacceptable and dangerous for patients,” Tosonidou stressed, adding that these private firms are being paid large sums of public money while failing to provide the basic safety of having a radiologist physically present during the procedure.
In her formal complaint to the hospital’s Director, she refers to an official document dated 23 December 2024 (Ref. No. 2549), which instructs qualified clinical physicians to accompany patients during CT scans involving the injection of iodine-based contrast agents. She points out that one key reason for requiring a radiologist on site at all times is precisely to ensure patient safety during such procedures.
Tosonidou further argued that the absence of radiologists is not only unlawful but also puts patients at risk.
“This remote diagnostic model being pushed by private firms, and enabled by hospital management, is a flagrant violation of medical protocols. You, as the person authorising these public payments to the private company, have a duty to insist on the radiologist’s physical presence during CT scans,” she wrote.
She concludes her statement with a clear demand:
“I call for the immediate withdrawal of this unlawful and hazardous directive. If you fail to reverse it, I will take every available trade union and legal action to address the criminal liability involved in this decision.”
