According to the Journalist Union of Macedonia and Thrace:
“The institutional role of a government spokesperson demands absolute respect for journalistic work. Fact-based responses are the only acceptable way to address any questions posed by journalists. In contrast, personal attacks undermine the credibility of journalism and become tools for those seeking to diminish public trust in information.”
During the conference, the government spokesperson responded in a particularly aggressive manner to the journalist’s (Jacobin.gr) questions:
“You simply don’t read our initial proposals and come here to spread propaganda through your questions. Listen to what I have presented—detailed data about the university in question. Read and understand what we are saying. Ask your questions, and understand that Greece will not turn back. I see it bothers you that young people might study at private universities.”
It’s worth mentioning the recent initiative by the Greek government, promoting the opening of a Sorbonne university branch in Greece, presented as a major advancement for higher education. However, this move is based on deliberate confusion, as it is not the prestigious University of Paris, but Sorbonne Paris Nord University, which ranks much lower than several Greek public universities. This project is part of a broader strategy of privatising education, aiming to undermine public institutions in favour of the private sector—an approach also reflected in the handling of information.
