Maria Karystianou and Pavlos Aslanidis, relatives of the victims, have submitted a request to the Parliamentary Bureau seeking the removal of immunity for Kostas Karamanlis (New Democracy) and Christos Spirtzis (Syriza), in light of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office’s conclusions regarding contract 717.

The petition, endorsed by attorney Eleonora Georgiou, emphasizes that EU law supersedes national constitutional provisions, rendering “Article 86 of the Constitution effectively inoperative.” Christos Spirtzis concurs with this interpretation and elaborated on it in his comments to Documento.

The submission comes just ahead of tomorrow’s crucial plenary session in Parliament, which will debate the conclusions drawn by New Democracy, the governing party, regarding the Tempe tragedy inquiry.

Syriza called for the removal of immunity from K. Karamanlis again today.
