Maria Karystianou, president of the Tempe tragedy victims' families, fiercely criticized the parliamentary investigation committee's expected decision to refer former Deputy Minister Christos Triantopoulos directly to the judicial council. She condemned the actions of Triantopoulos and those who instructed him, calling them "cowards" for evading accountability. Karystianou warned that this decision would mark a historic subversion of the Constitution and urged that those responsible for abusing their power should be held accountable under both national and European law.

Maria Karystianou, president of the association of Tempe tragedy victims’ families, commented on the likely outcome of today’s session of the parliamentary investigation committee on Triantopoulos’ role in the case. The session is expected to lead to the direct referral of former Deputy Minister Christos Triantopoulos to the judicial council, bypassing the preliminary inquiry of the Parliament.

She emphasised:

“The moral instigator of this deliberate act is none other than the suspect, Christos Triantopoulos, as well as any senior figure who instructed him and his colleagues to adopt a stance of cowardice, shame, and evasion, in order to avoid exposing their wrongdoings and to prevent witnesses and irrefutable evidence against them from coming to light.”

Karystianou further pointed out:

“Today’s decision by the parliamentary investigation committee will go down in history as a complete subversion of the Constitution, for all its members who willfully and knowingly violate their duties, colluding in the crime of abuse of power.”

She added that “every action or omission by those responsible, who abuse their power and betray the Constitution and the people, will be condemned for violating Constitutional and Criminal Law, as well as European mandates for upholding the principles of the Rule of Law.”
