The KKE’s detailed findings are as follows:
“The KKE expresses serious concerns about the manner in which the postal voting process is conducted. What we have already expressed throughout the time since the passing of the law, and during the process of handing over the files, is now being confirmed.
In the last two days, from complaints received by the KKE and observations made by its electoral representatives, the following issues have been identified:
- A number of electoral envelopes do not meet the legal requirements (law 5083/2024) for a valid postal voting procedure. This includes opened or damaged return envelopes, resulting in these votes not being counted and voters not being informed in time that their ballots were not delivered, preventing them from voting in person. A related objection was made yesterday, but no convincing answer was given.
- Based on the current procedure, thousands of postal vote return envelopes lack the necessary legalising documents (such as a signed statement and identity information), and therefore, these votes will not be counted during sorting.
Overall, it appears that thousands of voters who voted by mail will have their votes excluded from the election results, effectively depriving them of their right to vote.
The Ministry of the Interior should immediately assume responsibility for this serious issue and take the necessary measures to ensure the proper completion of the counting process, which will begin at 7 p.m.”
