In a statement, the KKE links the tragedy to what it calls a wider pattern of ‘employer crimes’, citing figures that at least 201 people died in workplace incidents in 2025 alone, due to overwork, inadequate health and safety measures, and insufficient inspections by the competent state authorities.

The party demands that ‘all critical questions’ about the causes of the explosion and fire be answered ‘immediately and clearly’, rejecting any ‘cover-up’ or ‘crocodile tears’ about “bad timing”. It also calls for responsibilities to be assigned, noting that the Trikala Labour Centre had repeatedly intervened and filed complaints over health, safety, and worker protection measures in factories in the area, including Violanta.

The KKE ends by offering condolences to the victims’ families and co-workers and wishing the injured a swift recovery. It says the ‘true honour’ to those killed will be to strengthen workers’ struggle for the enforcement of safety measures, against a policy that, it argues, ‘sacrifices’ workers’ rights, health, and even their lives ‘on the altar of capitalist profit’.
