The president of LAE, the party formed by those members of the parliament who left SYRIZA, wishing to continue the anti-memorandum stance, explained the position of his party towards Europe. At a radio interview, Mr.Lafazanis clarified that LAE does not ask for an exit from the EU, although the latter is" antidemocratic and totalitarian in many respects".

“This reactionary formation, the EU, is expressing many totalitarian and non-democratic opinions. Unfortunately, the Eurozone and the EU are on a path which tends to nullify every trace of democracy”.

He went on to clarify that “what circles from the European status quo say; that an exit from the Eurozone would also be an exit from Europe is not true. since there are many countries who are members of the Union yet are not in the Eurozone. So, one can leave the Euro without necessarily leaving EU. We are not asking to leave the EU but we are fervently asking for a change of the neoliberal and other choices that the European Union is currently making.”
