The week leading up to the referendum has started with the banks closed following the ECB’s decision to cut ELA funding two days before the Greek programme was due to end, in what was clearly a political move. Banks in Greece will remain closed until 6 July. Tsipras has called on the 18 Eurozone finance ministers to grant a few days extension to Greece to allow time for a referendum on the proposal under discussion. In his address to the nation he urged calm, saying that the only thing to fear was fear itself.
