Maria Karystianou, president of the Tempe Victims’ Relatives Association, spoke to in.gr and journalist Rania Tzima about threats she has received following her direct accusations against Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for “ultimate treason” in the proposal for a preliminary investigation.

A few days ago, I received threats to my life for ultimate treason,” Karystianou said. “What I was told is that the mere connection of the name of this particular family, the Mitsotakis family, with the crime of high treason cannot go unpunished. Just the connection alone, even if it doesn’t lead anywhere.”

She went on to say that there were “other, worse words” used in the threats. She has filed a complaint with the police, specifically the organised crime prosecution unit.

“Accidents happen, don’t they?” She said, describing the nature of the threat: “Accidents, to me, to someone of mine, to a familiar person.”

Karystianou also reported that during a discussion about her, someone said, “Karystianou won’t be there for long.” She further stated, “I refuse to ignore the situation. At least I know who I’m dealing with. So I wasn’t surprised by what I heard, nor when they told me, “You know very well that they’re not joking; they’re ruthless – all this was said in the conversation.”

When asked whether she feels at risk, she replied, “Theoretically I could, yes. Someone who talks, says, digs, tries, does, is in danger.”
