In response to a statement made by MP Makis Voridis, where he said, "Regarding her political views, which go beyond her role in the criminal case, she cannot be exempt from criticism," Maria Karystianou posted a response, calling Voridis "ruthless, heartless, and petty."

President of the Association of Tempe victims’ families, Maria Karystianou, labeled the Minister for the Interior as “ruthless” and “heartless,” and pointed out with emphasis:

“How hard is it, Mr Voridis, to understand that our request is based on values, not party politics? Based on values! Is this word completely unknown to you? Make sure you understand it well. Whoever was in power, we would be asking for the same thing!”

Makis Voridis statement on Karystianou:

“Ms. Karystianou is a mother who has lost her child in this tragedy, so we owe her respect as a mother. Because of this loss, she is a party in the criminal trial, she is a political plaintiff, and she demands that those responsible for this loss be found, tried, and punished. We owe her complete respect in her procedural role as a political plaintiff. Other than that, Ms. Karystianou expresses political views. As for her political views, those that go beyond her criminal role, she cannot be above reproach, just like the rest of us. This is my opinion.”
