Aerial footage posted on YouTube by a local filmmaker using a drone shows the medieval village of Sfendyli on Crete, sinking in an artificial water reservoir.
The village, home to 80 residents and a 14th century Byzantine church, is being deliberately sunk as part of the controversial Aposelemi dam project which aims to supply water to the island’s capital Heraklion and other towns.
As part of the project, the village will be completely submerged but several residents refuse to leave and still remain in their homes.
