Arvanitis attributes this surge in accidents to the government’s policies under Prime Minister Mitsotakis, which he claims have eroded labour rights, normalised excessively long working hours, weakened the Labour Inspectorate, and perpetuated job insecurity. He argues that these factors, alongside a lack of adequate measures for health and safety and insufficient dialogue to address these issues, have directly contributed to the increase in fatal workplace incidents.

Calling for a serious conversation about health and safety at work, Arvanitis questions whether the government and responsible ministers will provide clear answers and effective solutions to this pressing issue. He urges the implementation of the European Commission’s Vision Zero strategy, aimed at eliminating all occupational accidents, to prevent further loss of life and to address the negligence he describes as stemming from employer and governmental failures.
