According to the Coast Guard, a patrol vessel of the Hellenic Coast Guard first spotted a high-speed boat disembarking people in the Skafis coastal area of Tilos in the early hours of the morning. After a pursuit, the boat was stopped, and its 39-year-old operator was arrested. Ground searches in the wider area of Megalo Chorio on Tilos led to the discovery of twelve men. The Tilos Port Station is conducting a preliminary investigation.
Later that morning, another patrol vessel, also operated by the Hellenic Coast Guard, intercepted a high-speed boat near the port of Kos. After the vessel was stopped using sound and light signals, 29 people were rescued and safely transported to the Kos Port Authority. A preliminary investigation is underway by the Kos Port Authority, and the boat has been seized.
