Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has aligned himself with US President Donald Trump, stating “I believe that there are two genders, male and female. This is dictated by biology,” while blaming “extreme positions of the woke movement” for political backlash in the US.

Speaking during a discussion with former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta, Mitsotakis echoed Trump’s conservative stance on gender identity and linked the rise of right-wing politics to progressive movements in the US.

“Certainly – and I have commented on this – the extreme positions of the woke movement (wokism) in the US have resulted in the pendulum swinging in the opposite direction,” he argued, suggesting that the shift in the political landscape is not due to Trump’s far-right views, but rather a reaction against progressive activism.

He went on to distinguish Europe from the US in this regard, stating: “I would like to point out that these extreme positions, which are, I believe, widespread on the liberal campuses of top American universities, have not appeared in Europe. I do not believe that we have this problem in Europe to justify a reaction against this particular agenda.”
